When I start up my HP laptop running Windows 7, right before the logon screen, the following error message appears:

After I click 'OK', I'm able to log in with my normal account, but after logging in, the command prompt appears and another error window appears:

The command prompt and this error has been occurring for a while now, ever since I tried using startup repair to fix something else.

I click 'close', and the same error from before appears, but instead is about explorer.exe (bad image).

After I close all of these, my desktop doesn't show and I'm left with a black screen with only my cursor.

I can't do anything, so the only way to shut down the computer is by holding down the power button.

(which means when I attempt to reboot, I see the 'unexpected shutdown' screen and the options to start windows with safe mode, normally, etc.
